Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust
destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves
treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where
thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there
your heart will be also.
I remember a day when I was on the campus of University of Evansville. I wanted to go into the small prayer room to pray. I felt urgency to do this; however, when I arrived, someone was already there. When I attended the college, there was a divider wall. I decided to go somewhere else to pray. I walked through the door, and went outside. Then suddenly, I felt a strong conviction to return and go into the prayer room.
I felt like God wanted me to return to the prayer room, but I felt it would be rude to just enter the prayer room while someone else was in there. I knew I was being disobedient. More so than any other day in my entire life, but this day I wanted to prove to God that I was right. It would be wrong to barge into someone else's prayer life.
Of course, now as I look back, I wish I would have listened to God's voice. I will never know what would have happened if I would have opened the prayer room's divider. That is why the verse Matthew 6:19-21 reminds us that our treasure truly is in heaven. I will never know what I lost because I didn't obey God. I will never know what would have happened if I opened the divider.
Interesting enough God gave me another chance, and I opened the divider later and had sweet fellowship with a fellow prayer warrior. God will be with us, when we remember that our treasure is in heaven.
