The king said to his servants, "The wedding feast is ready, but those
invited were not worthy. Go therefore to the main roads and invite to
the wedding feast as many as you find.’ And those servants went out into
the roads and gathered all whom they found, both bad and good. So the
wedding hall was filled with guests." But when the king came in to look
at the guests, he saw there a man who had no wedding garment. And he
said to him, "Friend, how did you get in here without a wedding
garment?" And he was speechless. Then the king said to the attendants, "Bind him hand and foot and cast him into the outer darkness. In that
place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth." For many are called,
but few are chosen.
I love this parable. It proves that God will not settle for lazy affection. Love is not a whimsical idea. It will not survive, if it lacks commitment and reverence.
This parable shows that God is an ambitious king. He will stand against anyone who belittles His Son's bride. The wedding day will be more than the culmination of the age. The Father's heart will be full of joy and gladness when He gives His Son in marriage. Anyone who dares to taint or belittle that day is worse than an unbeliever. The wedding day of the Lamb will outshine any wedding day. Jesus went to the cross to purchase us. His reward is a banquet and a festival of pure pleasure and celebration. If an attendant comes with the expectation of being a bitter wallflower, they have no right to attend. Everyone who comes should desire to exuberantly rejoice in God's graciousness.
The good news, we don't need to wait till that day. We can celebrate now. I believe every time we gather for worship, we should treat it like a wedding rehearsal!
