If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother, his wife and children, his brothers and sisters—yes, even his own life—he cannot be my disciple.
Luke 14:26
When Christians analyze this section of scriptures, they often dismiss the word hate. They suggest that Jesus isn’t asking us to truly hate our relatives. I beg to differ.
I have counted the cost and I have found Jesus is worth every sacrifice. He is my great, exceeding reward. You are not evil if you hate this fallen world; you are his disciple.
I love my family and friends. However, the moment they attempt to hinder my love for God is the moment they cross the line. I am justified to hate them in that moment. Love is spiritually violent and unyielding as the grave.
