These Days

I have never been naive enough to believe America is completely safe and protected. There are nations that hate and are at war with America. I fear the American public has a false sense of security.

I can’t help but think about Jeremiah’s day. He prophesied destruction, and his warnings battled with the other voices of his time. These voices spoke peace and security, and their predictions were false. The New Testament has this to say:

For you yourselves know full well that the day of the Lord will come just like a thief in the night. While they are saying, "Peace and safety!" then destruction will come upon them suddenly like labor pains upon a woman with child, and they will not escape.
1 Thessalonians 5:2-3

Those words have been haunting me.

I want God’s favor to rest on America. I pray for revival, repentance, and renewal. I go beyond praying for revival, I BELIEVE revival is possible! I have witnessed revival breaking out already. However, legalized abortion, rampant sexual immorality, and governmental and financial corruption will weaken our defenses.

I have a deep concern for my homeland. I don’t feel a need to preach fire and brimstone. I will preach hope, faith, and love. I can see a better America. I can see God powerfully moving on Hollywood, converting souls. I can see unity being restored to a divided political system. I can see pregnant teens choosing adoption over murder.

It CAN happen. But, it won’t happen because we have the right programs or successful strategies. It will happen because the Spirit of God moves. His presence is the only cure.

I, YES ME, am too desensitized and weak. I watch murder, violence, and sexual immorality for entertainment! I was raised in a self-centered, materialistic culture. I don’t realize how far I have fallen. But, the warning in my heart is reminding me to take these days seriously!

I agree.

I have similar discussions with my 5 yo daughter. At one stage, she enjoyed cartoons. Now she is so turned off by the violence that she will not watch television anymore.

However, there is also violence in Bible stories as David & Goliath and how the Israelites conquered Jericho.

We who watch television too much become too desensitised to the horror we are to pray about. But on the other hand, I think, we shouldn't be so turned off that we try to escape reality.
