Recently, I have experienced a conundrum. I have thought about helping others. I usually help other by treating them the way I would like to be treated. However, not everyone likes to be treated the way I like to be treated. For instance, I love music, theatre, and poetry. Not everyone enjoys that. So I can devote my life to the arts, and seriously offend people. I have good intentions, but there is a mass of people who consider my efforts fruitless.
There was a time I consider becoming a social worker, but I never found the grace for that endeavor. I didn't have the skill or the time to pursue it. I think this why I have looked at other areas of social justice. I have this nagging ache to please everyone. The second commandment is not as easy as it may seem. Bandaging the wounds of a Samaritan costs something. Jesus paid the price, and I am forever grateful that I am not required to take the whole world's problems on my shoulders.
