I wanted to do some research on excommunication because I was curious about the practice. I couldn't even read a paragraph. The concept was too far beyond me. The idea that the church would shun or shame one of it's own members sounds so barbaric. I am thankful that the church (as far as I am aware) has progressed beyond that tradition. The love of God precedes our judgmental attitudes. The church is learning to serve one another beyond our own concepts of God's moral demands.
Excommunication is a messy process, and it should be discontinued. It is a practice that Paul was able to use because of the situation the church was in at the time. I am thankful we no longer live in those barbaric times, and Christ kingdom is advancing.
