Envied

I read a news headline today: donations pouring in for Philippines may not be enough.

Many people have reacted with grief and sorrow over the typhoon crisis. This is a natural action to such an event. However, I have honestly experienced another reaction. My response is longing. I want to be there in the middle of the mess.

It isn't easy living in convenience. People might think riches and health are to be envied. They are not. I want to walk amongst the broken and feel their grief. Everyone in my current community isn't willing to admit their brokenness. They only want to be proven right and healthy.

I find God in the face of the hurting. We think the Philippines are to be pitied, but they are to be envied! They are not punished. They are not forsaken. They are now the center of the world's gaze. They are loved, and I wish I could be there!

You will see the face of God in those who need something the world can't give them. God will make beauty out of their ashes.
