City of Churches

Many non-believers believe that church shouldn't have large buildings. They believe the money should be used to help the poor or heal the sick. Money should fund our neighbors. That is why I adore First Assembly. They realize the church isn't just a place to worship; it is a place to protect and serve.
When a building is made that can protect citizens from disaster, it is a refuge. It isn't just about a comfortable pew to sit in every weekend. It is about ministering to the broken and having a place of safety.
The more churches that are built, the more space for refuge. It is often said that the church needs to get "out of the box" or "beyond the four walls". What if there was a natural disaster and the church building doesn't buckle because it was built on a good foundation. Sometimes being inside a church rescues you from homelessness and gives you a good message at the same time.

I really love that idea of small churches... however when you have a big building it affords you the opportunity to house many ministries, other church's services, evangelistic performances etc.
Our church's building was built out of our obedience to God's call to use the money in that way, not forgetting about the missionaries and ministries we support.
