Inaction

The recent earthquake in Haiti has forced me to reflect on my life. The scripture, Matthew 25:31-46, has been blaring in my ear. This is the scripture that illustrates how the final judgment will occur. Jesus will separate people into two categories: those who aided their neighbors in distress and those who did not.

Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me. (Matthew 25:45)

I have fancy words, a sensitive heart, and the desire to help others. But, I haven’t acted on my ethical desires enough. People are hurting, and I haven’t sacrificed my time, my money, or my tears nearly enough.
The world is experiencing massive shaking. Haiti’s earthquake, Katrina, and the massive tsunami that hit India are some obvious examples. I am not blind; I see the signs of the time. Christ is soon to return.
Our time is precious, and that time must be spent healing, restoring, and caring. I MUST come to the Lord and intercede. I must take action to prevent and end injustice. I must believe my Father is willing to partner with me still, even though I have neglected my duties in the past. I am leaning on His forgiveness and calling on His strength.
