Suddenly I am a Catholic

Last night I was wrestling with a theological question. I was meditating on the scripture where Jesus says "Unless you eat my flesh and drink my blood you can not be my disciples." I knew that Catholics takes this verse seriously. That is why the Eucharist is believed to be the flesh of Jesus. In those moments of study I began to realize why Catholics hold this view. Jesus never rephrases His statement. He realizes that it offended some of His followers, but this did not cause Him to waiver. I spent some time thinking about this topic last night. Ironically, today a good Catholic friend of mine called me with a question. She wanted to understand the Protestant belief that the elements are a symbol. She should not have called me. I explained the argument how I have understood it, but then admitted that I myself am struggling with the belief.
